THE INDIANA LATINO BAR ASSOCIATION STATEMENTS ON THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S DACA DECISION
South Bend (September 9, 2017) – The Indiana Latino Bar Association, ("ILBA"), condemns the Trump Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, more commonly known as DACA. DACA was designed to give children who, through no fault of their own, were displaced from their homes, all for the sake of a better life and an opportunity to succeed. Attorney General Jeff Sessions' statements demonstrate a fundamental lack of understanding regarding who make up DACA recipients and ignore the positive contributions this special group of human beings has made to our country. The administration is well within its power to allow DACA to remain, even despite pending litigation. The decision is heartless, cruel, and ignores the fundamental founding principles of our nation. ILBA is prepared to protect the rights of those affected by this decision and stands ready for the call to advocacy. Recognizing that DACA was a temporary fix, however, ILBA now urges the community to push our representatives to pass the Dream Act and protect our youth.
The Indiana Latino Bar Association is organized and operates exclusively for charitable, educational and professional purposes, including providing a forum for any natural person who is interested in promoting the social, economic, professional and educational advancement of Hispanic attorneys, the Hispanic Community, and the administration of justice.
